History of the Big Hat Luncheon

We are best friends turned business partners. We have over 30 years combined experience with planning/hosting events and vendor networking. We are Dedra and Charlitta, and we always dreamed of starting a business together. After years of planning events and inviting friends to indulge in our passion, we decided to do an event to highlight unsung members of the community by bringing awareness to these individuals and organizations to let them know "we see you" and to encourage them to keep going.

The Big Hat Luncheon has been going strong for 10 years now. We strive to make each year a unique experience by changing the program to keep it intriguing; however, we do have some staples in the event that add to the quality of our signature. From the beginning we have been fortunate to partner with milliner Angie Sandifer of Angie's Hats. She has allowed us to showcase her beautiful, one-of-a kind hats throughout each event and has always donated a hat to auction off so the proceeds could be gifted to the organization of the year. Other staples are  Aretta-Rie Johnson of In His Image Photography, whose red carpet photos allow us to take home beautiful memories; and Menia Buckner, whose energy and ease with transitions as the M.C. causes the program to flow seamlessly.

The Big Hat Luncheon took on a life of its own and has grown to have 175 in attendance. What sets our event apart from others is that the theme is woven into every aspect, participants are the focus, and everything is delivered with style and excellence. You are sure to experience the warmth, love, and sense of feeling beautiful and special as you step out in your finest hat with our red carpet entrance, professional photos, lovely decorations, live music, outstanding entertainment, delicious lunch, a variety of vendors, and phenomenal speakers.

We are excited about the future of the Big Hat Luncheon and its growth! To all who have attended and/or participated over the years, we are thankful for all your support. We know we could not have done it without you.
